Panama-flagged Bulk Carrier Strikes Port Structure, Sinks Boats on Danube

Panama-flagged bulk carrier S Line suffered steering failure on 31 August while sailing upstream on the Danube River at Tulcea, Romania, striking a port structure and sinking two nearby boats. Five additional vessels sustained hull and superstructure damage. No injuries were reported among crew or occupants of affected boats. Romanian authorities launched an investigation into the incident.

The Panama-flagged bulk carrier S Line allided with a port structure and sank nearby boats on the Danube River at Tulcea, Romania, on 31 August. No injuries were reported among the crew or those aboard the affected smaller boats.

The incident occurred around 5:10 pm local time while the vessel was sailing upstream; it suffered steering failure and struck the port structure. Two small boats sank, and five others were damaged to their hulls and superstructure.

An investigation has been launched by the Romanian authorities to determine the cause of the incident.

S Line is a 2022-built vessel that measures 146.8 meters in length, 25 meters in width and has a carrying capacity of 20,319.48 cubic meters.
