DP World Lirquén has incorporated its first 100% electric Internal Terminal Vehicles (ITVs), marking a milestone in the electrification process of the port facility.
The four new units are expected to strengthen operational efficiency, safety, and environmental performance in the maritime terminal's operations.
"The arrival of this equipment reinforces the Terminal's commitment to innovation, operational efficiency, and the development of an increasingly sustainable operation, incorporating technologies that reduce direct emissions and improve working conditions for operators," communicated DP World's Chilean subsidiary.
Meanwhile, Michael Spoerer, general manager of DP World Lirquén, stated that "the arrival of these electric ITVs demonstrates that the electrification of the port industry is already a reality in Chile, and at our terminal, we want to continue to be protagonists of that transformation. This year we took an important step with the incorporation of the country's first electric Reach Stacker, and today we are advancing to a new stage of modernizing our fleet."
"We are convinced that low-emission technologies will be fundamental for the future of our operations, and we want to lead that change with a responsible, innovative, and committed approach to our workers, clients, and communities," he added.
It is expected that the new electric tractor trucks will strengthen and expand DP World's operational fleet in Lirquén, increasing the available capacity to meet customer requirements and optimizing internal cargo transportation processes.
"Thanks to their electric technology, this equipment reduces fossil fuel consumption and has a simpler mechanical architecture than conventional diesel tractor trucks. This translates into lower maintenance requirements, less component wear, and better conditions to maximize equipment availability," specified DP World Lirquén.
"Their incorporation will also contribute to maintaining high standards of productivity and service, strengthening operational continuity and the terminal's responsiveness to the growth of its operations," it complemented.
The investment is part of the Terminal's sustainability strategy aimed at progressively reducing emissions associated with its operations and moving towards a cleaner energy matrix.
"Being 100% electric equipment, the new ITVs generate no direct emissions during operation, reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Likewise, they generate less noise and vibrations than conventional equipment, contributing to improving environmental conditions within the terminal," indicated Jorge Cárdenas, Senior Manager Engineering & Maintenance at DP World Lirquén.
In terms of safety, the new equipment incorporates 360° vision cameras, monitoring and operator assistance systems, as well as ergonomic improvements in the cabin and optimized suspension systems.
"These features strengthen safety during daily operation, improve comfort during the workday, and help reduce operator fatigue," the company stated.
"The incorporation of the new electric ITVs is part of the fleet expansion and modernization plan that DP World in Lirquén has promoted during 2026, which includes the incorporation of strategic equipment to strengthen the capacity, efficiency, and resilience of its operations," it added.
"With these investments, the Terminal continues to advance in the transformation of its infrastructure and equipment, integrating solutions that combine productivity, safety, and sustainability to respond to the present and future challenges of the port industry," concluded DP World Lirquén.
