The construction of the fourth LNG storage tank at Gate Terminal on Maasvlakte has been completed, and the tank has been commissioned. Gate is a joint venture between Gasunie and Vopak. The new tank has a storage capacity of 180,000 cubic meters of LNG. This expansion brings Gate's total capacity to 20 billion cubic metres per year, accounting for two-thirds of the total Dutch gas market.
The Port of Rotterdam Authority is currently building a fourth jetty for Gate Terminal. This jetty is expected to start small-scale ship loading and bunkering operations by the end of 2028. A fifth jetty is currently being assessed by Gate as to whether there is sufficient market interest. The terminal receives LNG by ship, stores it temporarily in liquid form, and then makes it suitable for delivery via the gas transmission network to users in the Netherlands and surrounding countries. The expansion increases the capacity to supply LNG from different parts of the world.
