An oil spill occurred on the premises of the Port of Antwerp (Belgium). Specifically, the emergency took place at the Deurganckdok substation between berths 1714 and 1716.
According to the Belgian port, the situation occurred on the afternoon of September 14, when the aforementioned spill originated from the vessel MSC Renaissance III, activating the corresponding emergency protocols. It was decided to suspend maritime traffic, diverting it through the Kallo lock.
Rescue units arrived at the scene to seal the ship's hole, ruling out oil contamination in the Scheldt River.
Currently, the emergency is still ongoing, with cleaning efforts persisting in the area affected by the spill.
The port has announced that maritime traffic has been fully restored; however, mooring remains prohibited at berths K1714, K1716, and K1720.
