Road cargo transport guilds sent a letter to the Minister of Finance, Jorge Quiroz, to apply the Fuel Price Stabilization Mechanism (Mepco) and face the new increase in gasoline prices.
The organizations pointed out that this new increase will primarily affect diesel, which is why they call for the use of Mepco so that the variation is around $30 per liter.
In this regard, "we express our strong rejection of any different option, as it would only directly harm citizens. This would imply breaching an agreement proposed by the Executive itself and damaging the trust built since March."
"Cargo transport companies no longer have the margin to absorb new and sharp increases that threaten the sustainability of the industry and the survival of our companies. Furthermore, due to the disastrous effects it would have on inflation, when what Chile needs most is to recover its economy," the truckers stated in a public declaration.
The guilds' stance comes after the statement by Minister Jorge Quiroz, who announced that fuel prices would increase by $30 per liter and by $90 per liter in the case of diesel.
