Various authorities supported the proposed Tarapacá Regional Logistics Policy (2026-2040) presented by Empresa Portuaria Iquique (EPI), an initiative aimed at planning the growth of the Port of Iquique.
The Mayor of Iquique, Mauricio Soria, stated that "we congratulate the decision taken by the president of EPI along with its directors and executives to propose this as a policy, a more comprehensive vision, not only what happens within the port, but also the last mile. And thus bring together the different institutions, the ministries that we have found, from experience, do not have fine coordination for a project as large as the development for Tarapacá, for Iquique and for our nation, such as the new port tender."
"So it is very good that we can all be together, that we can all contribute to having a great proposal so that Iquique finally transforms into the great importing and exporting center along with its Free Zone, its airport and its port, obviously, from the Pacific," Soria pointed out.
For her part, the Regional Ministerial Secretary (Seremi) of Economy, Development and Tourism of Tarapacá, Gladys Femenías, stated that "I thank Empresa Portuaria Iquique for presenting the Tarapacá Regional Logistics Policy for the period 2026-2050. It proposes a long-term vision to consolidate Tarapacá as a logistics hub in the South Pacific, taking advantage of our strategic position, the Port of Iquique and Zofri. This challenge represents an opportunity to attract investment, increase competitiveness and generate new jobs for our region."
In the same vein, Felipe Illanes, president of the Zofri Users Association (AUZ), highlighted that "what we have received from the port is a very good exposition of a remarkable vision and perspective of what it means to have a port with great potential and, naturally, reflecting the needs that this port has. Thus, we have had and received a very interesting vision of present and future port activities."
Empresa Portuaria Iquique assured that it will continue to hold working meetings and gatherings with different entities from the commercial, productive, industrial sectors, and authorities of the Tarapacá Region, integrating their perspectives into this document for sustainable growth.
According to the state-owned company, the strategic plan aims to transcend intra-port operations and incorporate a comprehensive "last mile" vision, harmoniously connecting public infrastructure, ministries, the private sector, and urban development. With this, the goal is to enhance the region's competitiveness in the face of international trade challenges, articulation with bioceanic corridors, and upcoming processes of the port facility.
