A major crane accident occurred involving the Barbados-flagged bulk carrier Vienna during a heavy lift cargo operation at Mumbai Port on 30 August. Two crane operators were reportedly injured.

The incident occurred at BPS Berth, Indira Dock, when 140 tonnes of cargo was being lifted from the bulk carrier using two shore-based mobile cranes. During the operation, a sling securing the cargo reportedly became unbalanced and came loose, causing the load to shift toward the second crane.
The second crane was lifted off the ground as the load shifted, with its long extendable arm striking the vessel. The impact triggered a fire which was successfully contained by the Mumbai Port Authority Fire Brigade.
The two operators of the crane were injured in the incident and were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. The extent of damage to the bulk carrier has not yet been confirmed, while the Mumbai Port Authority has launched an investigation into the incident to determine whether the safety procedures were followed during the lifting operation.
Vienna is a 2001-built and Chinese-owned bulk carrier. The incident occurred after the vessel arrived from Shanghai on 2 August.
