The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) of Peru held a meeting with DP World Callao, where the extension of the concession contract currently held by the operator of the South Pier of the Port of Callao was discussed.
The proposal, presented as Addendum No. 4, seeks to extend the company's term to manage the port facility - which is currently valid until 2036 - for 30 more years, that is, until 2066.
The initiative considers that DP World Callao will make investments of approximately USD 1.470 billion, aimed at expanding the terminal's infrastructure and equipment, implementing the Callao Foreport, and improving its access roads.
Marco Hernández, General Manager of DP World Callao, commented that "this meeting was held within the framework of the concession contract extension that DP World is working on with the Peruvian State, exclusively with the Ministry of Transport, in which we are receiving all their good offices to get this investment, which is more than 1.4 billion dollars, as soon as possible for the benefit of Peru.
"The South Pier is to be expanded, doubling its capacity to make Peru's gateway connecting with the world ever larger," said the head of the concessionaire in charge of the South Pier.
The proposal is under joint evaluation and requires coordination among the competent entities, including the National Port Authority (APN), the General Directorate of Transport Infrastructure (DGISTR), Provías, and the Provincial Municipality of Callao, in order to accompany the growth of port capacity with improvements in access and cargo transport flow.
By the end of 2025, the South Pier moved a record 2.079 million TEU, equivalent to approximately 62.5% of the containers moved in Callao. Currently, after the expansion of the Bicentennial Pier, the terminal has an installed capacity of up to 2.7 million TEU annually.
