The Maritime Port of Guayaquil recorded a record growth in container movement during the first half of 2026, driven by trade with Asia. Contecon reported a 30% increase in its operations, exceeding national growth.
This dynamism is also reflected in general cargo linked to mining projects, with the arrival of deeper draft vessels and heavy machinery. Given this scenario, Contecon plans new investments in docks and cranes to expand the terminal's operational capacity.
The concessionaire anticipates that port capacity could reach its limit in 2028 and points to the access channel as a key factor for sustaining competitiveness. The 15-meter deepening project continues under management, in line with the growth needs of foreign trade and maritime transport.
