The incident occurred at around 12:35 am local time, when the Liberian-flagged bulk carrier Anassa, loaded with 35,350 tonnes of slag, was trying to anchor at the Alpha Anchorage and collided with the Bangladesh-flagged bulk carrier Zahab Jahan at anchor with no cargo.
The Secretary of the Chittagong Port Authority confirmed that no injuries, water ingress, or pollution were reported, and that all 21 crew members aboard the two vessels were safe. The ships were separated and safely re-anchored, while vessel movements returned to normal.
The incident followed a collision between oil tanker Sea Spike and bulk carrier Sun Shine on 14 August. Sea Spike, carrying 33,000 tonnes of diesel, lost control amid strong tidal currents and collided with anchored bulk carrier Sun Shine, loaded with 52,000 tonnes of imported wheat.
Sea Spike suffered hull damage, with no oil reported. The repair of the oil tanker is underway at the site.
