The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) of Peru, through the National Port Authority (APN), granted Definitive Technical Port Viability to Southern Copper Corporation for the Punta Tablones Multi-Buoy Port Terminal project, located in Ilo, Department of Moquegua.
Through a resolution, the agency determined to "grant Definitive Technical Port Viability in favor of Southern Peru Copper Corporation, Sucursal del Perú, for the port project called "Punta Tablones Multi-Buoy Port Terminal", located on the North Coastal highway at the level of the Southern Perú Smelter Plant, in the district of Pacocha, province of Ilo and department of Moquegua, for a period of thirty (30) years."
The initiative considers the installation of five mooring buoys, two signaling buoys, and submarine pipelines for the unloading of oil intended for the company's mining and metallurgical activities.
The project is part of the efforts promoted by the MTC and the APN to foster the development of port infrastructure in the country, particularly through initiatives aimed at strengthening capacities for foreign trade.
Public entities indicated that the promotion of modern and efficient infrastructure is part of the actions aimed at generating conditions that contribute to the development of port activity and the growth of the Peruvian economy.
