The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) released its financial report for the first half of the current year. The agency recorded an 11.31% growth in its profits for the same period in 2025.
According to the PPA, total revenues amounted to USD 261,070, exceeding initial estimates by 7.61%.
In this regard, PPA General Manager, Jay Daniel Santiago, stated that "our performance in the first half of the year demonstrates that the investments and reforms we have driven throughout the port system are translating into concrete results. We observe sustained commercial activity, increased connectivity, booming tourism, and improved revenues, all of which strengthen our capacity to continue investing in better and more modern ports for the Filipino people," he affirmed.
Regarding container handling, it was reported that "it also increased, with ports managing 4.30 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), up 2.65% from the 4.19 million TEUs in the first half of last year.
"The overall increase in cargo was supported by higher shipments of key commodities, including raw minerals at the Port Management Office (PMO) of Eastern Leyte/Samar and metallic minerals at the PMO of Surigao and the PMO of Zamboanga del Norte," it was added.
In relation to cruise tourism, PPA ports recorded 70 cruise ship calls during the first six months of 2026, representing a 4.48% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
Furthermore, it was detailed that "containerized cargo activity was boosted by increased operations at PMO NCR North, PMO Palawan, and PMO Batangas, as well as increased foreign container activity at PMO NCR South, PMO Davao, and the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT)."
Finally, Santiago added that "each cruise ship call creates opportunities that go beyond the port. It brings international visitors to our communities, local businesses, tourist destinations, and cultural attractions. Our responsibility is to ensure that Philippine ports are prepared to receive these opportunities and provide every visitor with a safe, efficient, and world-class gateway to the country."
