On the occasion of Euronaval 2026 in Paris, Fincantieri, one of the world’s leading shipbuilding groups, and REPUBLIKORP, Indonesia’s largest privately owned defense industrial holding company, acting through its subsidiary PT Republik Palindo Internasional (RPAL), have signed a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA), marking a further step in the strategic cooperation launched by the two groups at Eurosatory in June 2026.

The agreement provides for the establishment of a joint venture in Indonesia between RPAL and Fincantieri, which will serve as a strategic industrial platform to advance cooperation and pursue opportunities in Indonesia’s naval defence sector. The joint venture will operate across the value chain, covering the marketing, design, construction and sale of selected naval platforms, including multi-role surface vessels, submarines and next-generation corvettes, as well as lifecycle support services for vessels intended for the Indonesian Ministry of Defence.

The initiative is designed to support the development of an increasingly advanced and autonomous naval shipbuilding ecosystem in Indonesia, combining Fincantieri’s expertise in the design and construction of high-complexity naval vessels, system integration and lifecycle support, with RPAL’s industrial capabilities and comprehensive understanding of Indonesia’s naval defence ecosystem and domestic industrial landscape. This model will enable the progressive development of local expertise and production capabilities, creating conditions for a solid and sustainable industrial footprint in the country.

Technology and training support will be a core component of the partnership, with Fincantieri and RPAL working together to advance engineering and production processes, upgrade shipyard facilities, train local personnel and support the development of the domestic supply chain. The goal is to progressively consolidate local competencies across the entire lifecycle of naval vessels, while contributing to the growth of a skilled workforce and a competitive domestic shipbuilding ecosystem.

Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri commented: “ This agreement marks a new step in our long-term commitment to Indonesia and reflects Fincantieri’s approach to strategic markets: combining our technological and industrial expertise with strong local capabilities. Together with REPUBLIKORP, we aim to contribute to the development of an increasingly advanced and competitive naval shipbuilding ecosystem, supporting Indonesia’s ambitions while creating the conditions for further opportunities across the region.”

Norman Joesoef, Chairman of Republikorp Group Holding, stated:“ The establishment of this joint venture represents a strategic step toward strengthening Indonesia’s maritime defence industrial independence. Through our partnership with Fincantieri, we are committed to advancing domestic shipbuilding capabilities, strengthening technological expertise and the competencies of Indonesia’s workforce, and expanding local production and maintenance capabilities for naval vessels. We believe this cooperation will not only support Indonesia’s national defence requirements but also lay a strong foundation for a competitive and sustainable maritime industry in the long term.”

Looking ahead, the joint venture may also provide a platform to address selected opportunities across the wider ASEAN region, including in higher complexity naval segments.
