Viking contracted for two more ocean ships at Fincantieri, firming options granted in April 2025. The 54,300gt, 998-passenger vessels are to be built in Ancona, scheduled for 2032 delivery.
The price was not disclosed but Fincantieri called it a "large" agreement, that is, one valued between €500m and €1b.
Viking's orderbook now stands at 11 committed ocean ships plus four options, two expedition ships and 20 river vessels plus 16 options.
During Viking's earnings call Wednesday, Executive Chairman Torstein Hagen pointed to the strength of the company's orderbook, saying: "It will be very good for us. As long as we make sure we spend enough on marketing, treat our guests well and we have good contract prices with the yards, then I think this will be one of Viking's main assets."
The order follows one inked earlier this year for a pair of expedition ships, to be built at Fincantieri's Palermo yard which is being upgraded for newbuild construction.
"Today's agreement marks another milestone in our long-standing partnership with Viking and serves as a powerful testament to the excellence and industrial expertise of our Ancona shipyard," Fincantieri CEO/MD Pierroberto Folgiero said.
"Over the years, Ancona has proven to be an indispensable production hub for our group, delivering highly sophisticated cruise ships that set the benchmark for technology, luxury and efficiency. Assigning these newbuilds to Ancona reinforces the strategic role of the site, supports high-value local employment and ensures long-term industrial continuity for our supply chain as we continue to shape the future of sustainable cruising."
Fincantieri has expansion plans for Ancona, as detailed in Seatrade Cruise Review's June 2026 cover story.
