The collision occurred at around 5:15 p.m. on 17 May in a busy section of the Paraná River. The barge HB Perseus, was conducting a coordinated maneuver to move aside for another approaching vessel when the barge convoy struck the anchored tanker Ginga Bobcat, which was positioned in a designated anchorage area.
The Ginga Bobcat was struck on the bow and sustained damage. At least two barges from the convoy temporarily broke free and drifted away following the collision. The tugboat crew later regained control and recovered the drifting barges.
On 18 May, the Argentine Naval Prefecture launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities are inspecting both vessels, reconstructing the sequence of events, and conducting interviews with those involved.
