According to a Drewry analysis, cancelled voyages for the next five weeks will reach 77 blank sailings out of a total of 720 announced departures. On average, 89% of vessels are expected to start their voyages as planned.
The consultancy indicated that between week 39 (September 21-27) and week 43 (October 19-25), the main routes; that is, Trans-Pacific, Trans-Atlantic, and Asia-Northern Europe and Mediterranean, will accumulate an 11% cancellation of total sailings.
Disruptions are concentrated on the eastbound trans-Pacific route (55%), followed by Asia-Europe/Mediterranean (31%), while the trans-Atlantic route (14%) remains the least affected.
"As Golden Week approaches, the pre-holiday rush of shipments and new capacity adjustments by shipping lines could influence available space and October schedules," the consultancy stated.
"Meanwhile, security risks in the Middle East continue to affect regional transport flows, even as more services resume transit through Suez. Erratic port congestion and schedule reliability will remain key factors for shippers as networks readjust," it added.
