Regional Container Lines (RCL) has ordered four highly energy-efficient Bangkokmax containerships, each with a capacity of 1,900 TEU. This order represents the latest step in the Thai shipping company's fleet renewal program, which seeks to modernize its regional network.
The new vessels aim to strengthen the density and flexibility of RCL's core regional network, which serves ports across Asia.
The future units will complement the company's newly built larger ships, designed to support the expansion of RCL's mid-haul services beyond its traditional short-sea routes.
Together, these two categories of vessel investment are part of RCL's broader strategy to build a more connected, Asia-based shipping network that expands into selected growth markets.
The company has not disclosed the shipyard contracted to build the four Bangkokmax vessels, nor the delivery schedule, nor the total value of the order.
RCL operates one of the largest intra-Asia container shipping networks, with services concentrated in Southeast Asia, China, and other regional markets.
