T-MEC Terminal Puerto del Norte announced on Tuesday that it has begun receiving cargo from Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials in Matamoros as part of the commencement of its regular operations. The cargo consists of aluminum trifluoride produced in that city, with the port of Pecém, Brazil, as its intended destination.
The merchandise travels approximately 84 kilometers by road from Orbia's plant to the terminal. Once at the port, the units undergo reception, weighing, and operational controls; then the product is unloaded and stored awaiting the vessel that will carry out the maritime transfer. The company did not specify the vessel's arrival date or the cargo volume.
The initiation of this flow occurs while the port of Matamoros is carrying out maintenance dredging works in the access channel and in the terminal's operational basin. The works, carried out by Boskalis with the self-propelled hopper dredge Crestway, are scheduled from September 18 to 25, 2026.
The reception of cargo and the maintenance of maritime infrastructure are part of the gradual commissioning of this port alternative for the industry of the northeast. The next step will be the arrival of the vessel and the shipment of the merchandise to Brazil, which would complete the journey initiated at the Matamoros plant.
T-MEC Terminal Puerto del Norte, formerly known as Terminal Marítima de Matamoros, belongs to Mota-Engil México. It is a public-use multipurpose terminal designed to handle general cargo, steel, agricultural and mineral bulk, vehicles, containers, and project cargo, in addition to operations related to the energy and offshore sectors.
Due to its proximity to the border with the United States and the industrial centers of Tamaulipas, Nuevo León, and Coahuila, the terminal seeks to attract cargo from the northeast corridor. Orbia's movement constitutes one of the first flows announced in this stage of regular operations.
