The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) informs users, maritime operators, and the general public that, following inspections conducted at port facilities affected by the earthquake registered last Friday, October 9, the 80% reactivation of vessel departures, issuance, and authorization of loading operations has been authorized in state ports whose operations had been suspended.
Exceptions to this provision are Puerto Mutis, in the province of Veraguas, whose facilities will remain closed on the recommendation of the National Civil Protection System (SINAPROC), and the port of Búcaro, in Los Santos, which has not been accessible due to road conditions.
Meanwhile, at the port of El Agallito, in the province of Herrera, the pier will remain closed until further notice, on the recommendation of SINAPROC, while the offices will continue to operate normally.
At the port of Mensabé, in the province of Los Santos, the provisions will apply only during this Tuesday, October 13. Public service at the offices will be suspended, but personnel will remain available to supervise departures.
The AMP also indicates that the limitations in the operation and service of some ports respond not only to the damage caused by the earthquake on October 9 but also to the situation faced by its employees, whose homes have suffered partial or total damage as a result of the seismic movement.
The institution understands that these circumstances make it difficult for them to attend work, so it considers it necessary to take into account their safety and well-being while they address the priority needs of their families.
The measure is adopted as part of the gradual resumption of port activities. The AMP will continue to monitor the conditions of the facilities and coordinate with the corresponding entities the necessary actions to advance towards the recovery of 100% of operations.
The institution urges users and maritime operators to stay informed through its official channels, website, and social media, where updates on port operations and adopted provisions will be communicated in a timely manner.
