The Directorate General of Seafarers (DGGM) of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) and its Regional Documentation Offices (ORD) successfully passed an external audit of their Quality Management System (QMS) under the ISO 9001:2015 standard, evaluated by the international firm Bureau Veritas.
The result of this audit validates the operational efficiency of the DGGM, certifies the quality of its services aimed at seafarers globally, and supports the modernization process being carried out by the current maritime administration.
The evaluation was conducted by an audit team comprising José Rosas, in person, and Ana Elena Murgas, remotely, who examined the key and support processes that ensure service to users of the Panamanian Registry.
During the audit, the operational management of the Quality, Titling, Labor Affairs, Control and Compliance, and Training departments was evaluated. Likewise, the performance of the Regional Documentation Offices located in the strategic ports of London, Miami, and Mumbai was audited.
The process also covered institutional support units, including Maintenance and Cleaning, Purchasing, Warehouse, Custodian of Valuable Documents, and IT, demonstrating the integration and traceability of internal processes.
During the closing meeting, Bureau Veritas auditor José Rosas highlighted the maturity of the system implemented by this maritime entity.
"The ISO 9001:2015 standard integrates risk and opportunity management for the achievement of business objectives. It has ceased to be merely a compliance system and has become a tool that helps the organization to prosper and maintain customer satisfaction, an objective achieved by the Directorate General of Seafarers," Rosas stated. He added that the identified opportunities for improvement will be documented and addressed by senior management.
For his part, the Director General of the DGGM, Felipe Arias, reaffirmed the institution's commitment to operational excellence.
"I am deeply proud of the entire team for the dedicated effort to successfully pass this audit. Verifying compliance with our quality standards commits us even more to continue providing excellent service to our national and international users," Arias concluded.
