The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) informs the general public, the maritime and port sector, as well as the national and international community, that its Board of Directors, meeting in an extraordinary session this Tuesday, September 1, 2026, agreed to repeal Resolution JD No. 012-2026, published in Official Gazette N° 30600 on August 28.
The adoption of Resolution JD No. 012-2026 responded to the need to protect the interests of the State and safeguard confidential information whose disclosure could affect ongoing legal processes and, consequently, the defense of public assets.
In this regard, Article 8 of Law 6 of January 22, 2002, establishes that: "State institutions are obliged to provide any person who requires it with information on their operation and activities, with the sole exception of confidential and restricted access information."
Likewise, Article 83 of Law N° 35 of May 10, 1996, recognizes the protection of industrial or commercial information that is confidential and may represent a competitive or economic advantage over third parties.
Under this legal framework, the AMP Board of Directors considered that Resolution JD No. 012-2026 was aimed at protecting information whose disclosure could compromise the legal and patrimonial interests of the State, without any intention of limiting the right of access to public information recognized by the national legal system.
With this decision to repeal the aforementioned resolution, the AMP reaffirms its commitment to open, transparent, and law-abiding institutional management, promoting the trust of citizens and the maritime and port sector, as well as the security and clarity necessary to continue strengthening Panama's competitiveness in the maritime field.
