Social Management in the Panama Canal Basin: Sustainability and Governance

The Panama Canal hosted the discussion "Social Management: Perspectives from the Panama Canal, Academia, the Private Sector, and Public Institutions," a knowledge-sharing forum that brought together national specialists to reflect on the role of social management in project sustainability, strengthening citizen participation, and the governance of the Panama Canal Hydrographic Basin.

During the event, representatives from the Panama Canal, academia, and the private sector shared experiences and approaches related to building trust, engaging with key stakeholders, participatory methodologies, and capacity building to address the country's social and environmental challenges.

The meeting also highlighted the progress achieved through the Socio-environmental Management Model of the Panama Canal Hydrographic Basin and the contributions of the Participatory Platform, an initiative spanning over two decades that has promoted dialogue, co-responsibility, and collaboration among communities, organizations, and institutions in favor of water resource protection.

Through these types of initiatives, the Panama Canal reaffirms its commitment to strengthening socio-environmental management, the participation of territorial stakeholders, and the creation of alliances that contribute to the sustainable development of the Panama Canal Hydrographic Basin.
