The state oil company, Petroperú, in response to information disseminated regarding the supply, electricity generation, and fuel prices in the Loreto region, issued a statement about its actions.
The issued document states the following:
1) Petroperú is deploying logistical actions to maintain the supply of 84 octane gasoline and regular gasoline, despite navigability restrictions caused by the pronounced low water levels of the Amazonian rivers.
Given these conditions, which are affecting the transit of various vessels, the Ministry of Energy and Mines, through Directorial Resolution N.° 146-2026-MINEM/DGH, ordered temporary measures to exempt compliance with maintaining average and minimum stored fuel inventories to facilitate supply in Loreto.
2) Faced with these conditions, the company is implementing operational measures to reinforce the supply in Iquitos.
Currently, a convoy with 15,000 barrels of gasoline is in transit on the Huallaga River towards the Iquitos Refinery, with an estimated arrival date of September 18, 2026, while work continues to restore navigability for another vessel carrying 12,000 barrels of gasoline, which has been stranded since September 11, 2026, due to the low level of the Huallaga River.
3) Furthermore, there are no issues with the fuel supply for electricity generation in Iquitos. The demand from power generation companies is being met normally and is guaranteed, as crude oil is available to cover their requirements without setbacks.
4) Regarding prices, as previously indicated, Petroperú clarifies that these primarily respond to the evolution of international fuel prices and the components associated with their supply and commercialization.
Therefore, the variations recorded in Loreto are not due to discretionary decisions by the company nor are they attributable to inefficiency in its management.
"Petroperú will continue to adopt the necessary measures to contribute to the regular and secure supply of fuels in Loreto, and urges citizens and agents in the commercialization chain to seek information through official sources and avoid speculations that could generate unnecessary concern," the state oil company emphasized.
