The private sector has expressed its interest in expanding its investments in infrastructure through addenda to concession contracts, with a special focus on ports, transport, hydrocarbons, and energy, as reported by the Private Investment Promotion Agency of Peru (ProInversión).
This was announced by ProInversión's Director of Investor Services, Edgar Patiño, during the forum "Infrastructure and Public Services: New Challenges and Opportunities," held in the San Isidro district.
Patiño highlighted the existence of various initiatives to expand investments in the country, emphasizing the case of the Port of Matarani, whose concession was set to expire in 2029 and had not registered new investments since 2020.
To reverse this situation, the official explained that an addendum was agreed upon, committing an investment of USD 700 million and extending the concession period by an additional 30 years.
Likewise, an addendum related to the transport of minerals at the Port of Callao is projected to be finalized by the end of the year, which will facilitate the expansion of services oriented towards the hydrocarbon sector.
The ProInversión representative also detailed that DP World presented an addendum proposal for USD 1.5 billion aimed at expanding its dock and optimizing the foreport infrastructure.
Meanwhile, APM Terminals is expected to formulate its own contractual modification, which will also open opportunities to attract capital in the electrical transmission sector.
"With good concessionaires, there will be addenda for greater investments. It is necessary for the sectors to promote these projects and for there to be a good concessionaire willing to invest," Patiño stated.
