The Port of San Antonio managed to surpass one million TEU transferred, according to the balance published during the first half of 2026 by the maritime facility. Ultimately, the figure was reached one month earlier than the same period last year, driven by a 3.5% year-on-year growth in container movements.
Through a statement, the San Antonio Port Company (EPSA) provided details of the semi-annual figures, reporting that "the first half of 2026 closed with a solid operational performance by transferring 11,847,013 tons of cargo, a figure that represents a growth of 4.3% compared to the same period of the previous year. In June alone, the port system mobilized 1,866,331 tons, maintaining a positive trend in activity."
Regarding containerized cargo, it was indicated that "during the first half of 2026, the port's concessioned terminals mobilized 8,990,755 tons (+3%) and 1,006,456 TEU (+4%), confirming that the main driver of the port's growth continues to be container transfer."
"Performance by cargo type showed particularly significant growth in solid bulk, which increased 17% to 2,206,872 tons. Meanwhile, breakbulk cargo reached 253,962 tons (-3%), vehicle transfer reached 126,997 units (-5%), and liquid bulk registered 395,424 tons (-21%) during the first half," the circular added.
In this regard, the General Manager of the Port of San Antonio, Fernando Gajardo, stated that "the results of the first half reflect the dynamism of Chilean foreign trade and the responsiveness that our port system has developed. Having surpassed one million TEU earlier than last year confirms a growth trend that demands continued strengthening of operational efficiency and timely planning of the infrastructure the country will require in the coming years."
Finally, the executive noted that "Puerto San Antonio has promoted various initiatives to increase the efficiency of the port system through the New Logistics Model, improving coordination among the different actors in the chain and strengthening the port's operational availability. These advances, along with the planning of new infrastructure, seek to ensure that the port continues to respond in a timely manner to the needs of foreign trade and the economic development of Chile," Gajardo concluded.
