The Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) will hold an auction for the IQI16 terminal at the Port of Itaqui (MA) on December 9, at B3 in São Paulo. The project foresees R$ 147.01 million in private investments to implement and operate a structure specialized in the handling and storage of bulk solid minerals, with a focus on fertilizers.

In the first half of 2026, the Port of Itaqui handled 6.58 million tons, with emphasis on solid bulk, such as soybeans; liquid bulk, such as petroleum derivatives; and general cargo, such as cellulose. In this context, the new terminal, which will have an area of 21,765 m², will contribute to strengthening the flow of cargo through the Northern Arc.

For the National Secretary of Ports, Alex Ávila, the venture expands the infrastructure available for strategic cargo and reinforces the role of the Port of Itaqui in the region's logistics. "We are expanding the port's capacity to receive and handle fertilizers, with investments in storage, equipment, and operational efficiency. It is an important infrastructure to strengthen the Northern Arc and provide better conditions for the flow and supply of the production chains served by the Port of Itaqui," he highlighted.

Structure and operation

The winning company will be responsible for the expansion and modernization of the terminal's infrastructure, with investments in equipment and structures for cargo handling, storage, reception, and dispatch. The contract will have a term of 25 years, with the possibility of extension up to a limit of 70 years.

Among the planned interventions are the acquisition of cranes, hoppers, and road scales, as well as the implementation of a storage structure with a minimum static capacity of 70 thousand tons. The project also foresees reception and dispatch systems with an effective capacity of 300 tons per hour, entry and exit control integrated with the Port Authority's systems, and adjustments in truck circulation and parking areas.

When in operation, the terminal is expected to generate 60 jobs in the administrative, environmental, maintenance, and operational areas.
