The Colombian Federation of Logistics Agents in International Trade (Fitac) made an urgent call to the Government of Colombia and the competent authorities to intervene in the road blockades, registered in key sectors such as Bendiciones, Loboguerrero, and Zaragoza, which are paralyzing the flow of cargo to the Port of Buenaventura.
The group emphasized that progress must be made "in dialogue mechanisms and immediate attention to the situation currently facing Buenaventura, where mobility restrictions in sectors such as Bendiciones, Loboguerrero, and Zaragoza are already impacting the population, supplies, and the country's logistical operations."
"Since May 19, the disruptions in the access corridors have limited the transit of private vehicles, inter-municipal transport, and heavy cargo, a situation that has kept hundreds of transporters stranded and hinders the normal development of port and foreign trade operations in Colombia's main Pacific port," Fitac communicated.
"The situation is also beginning to generate direct consequences for citizens and the region's economic dynamics. Difficulties in the supply of food, gas, and essential products increase concern about possible food security risks, while various producers and business sectors face losses derived from logistical delays, operational interruptions, and higher transport costs," it added.
In this regard, the Federation of logistics agents emphasized that "the restrictions are already impacting other strategic points in the southwest of the country. In Cali, temporary closures and disruptions in the operation of the Transport Terminal have been registered, reflecting the regional scope that the contingency is beginning to have on mobility and land connectivity."
"Given this scenario, Fitac reiterates the importance of adopting measures that allow the restoration of mobility conditions, guarantee corridors for supplies, and advance in concerted solutions that contribute to reducing the social, economic, and logistical impacts currently facing Buenaventura and Colombian foreign trade," it added.
