Since March of this year, DP World has transported 500,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) through its road and rail network.
Currently, the network manages approximately 3,000 truck movements daily, and DP World has recently incorporated 700 trucks to expand its cross-border and domestic transport capacity.
"The land transport of half a million TEU demonstrates the scale, resilience, and flexibility of our network beyond the terminals. Our extensive land logistics capabilities offer shipping lines and cargo owners more route options and greater certainty in transporting goods across the region, allowing them to adapt quickly to changing conditions," stated Ahmad Yousef Al-Hassan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC.
In recent months, the company has opened fast-track customs corridors connecting East Coast entry points directly to Jebel Ali, established a customs corridor from Sohar in Oman, and leveraged Red Sea route options via the South Container Terminal of Jeddah Islamic Port.
To further expand its land logistics capacity, DP World has inaugurated a new 100,000 m² empty container depot in Al Awir, Dubai. This new depot offers increased storage and distribution capacity for empty containers outside Jebel Ali Port, providing shipping lines and logistics operators greater flexibility for the collection, delivery, and repositioning of empty containers in Dubai, Sharjah, and the Northern Emirates.
Located in Al Awir, with direct access to Emirates Road, the new facility connects major logistics and industrial zones in the UAE and offers opportunities for future rail transport of containers via Etihad Rail. It manages 20, 40, and 45-foot empty containers and provides inspection services, condition reports, and inventory management for shipping lines.
