Maersk wishes to inform customers of a new government-mandated ozone treatment requirement applicable to refrigerated containers carrying meat products exported from Nicaragua. Effective September 1st, 2026, the Nicaraguan authorities require all affected shipments to undergo mandatory ozone treatment performed by the Organismo Internacional Regional de Sanidad Agropecuaria (OIRSA) prior to export. To be authorized for loading, containers must be accompanied by a valid OIRSA-issued Ozone Treatment Certificate and sealed with the official government seal. Government inspectors will verify compliance before vessel loading, and containers failing to meet these requirements may be rejected for export by the relevant authorities.
To support compliance with this mandatory regulation and recover associated operational costs, Maersk will implement the following surcharge effective September 21st, 2026.
| Charge Code | Charge Name | Location | Currency | Amount | Cargo Type | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ASE | Additional Service Export | All Nicaragua loading ports | USD | 267.23* | Reefer/ Meat Products | Per container |
*Ozone=USD 250.03, Seal=USD 5, Surveyor transportation=USD12.2
