DP World has achieved record vessel performance and reduced discharge times by over 90% at the Port of Dar es Salaam, marking a significant milestone in the terminal's transformation since it began operations in April 2024.
In the first quarter, the port reached another operational milestone with the arrival of the M/V Ramhan vessel. At 240 meters in length, it is the longest vessel to have docked in Dar Es Salaam, with a capacity for up to 7,790 vehicles. The vessel discharged 779 units, primarily heavy vehicles, in just over 27 hours.
"Our continued investment in the Port of Dar es Salaam reflects DP World's long-term commitment to Africa's economic growth and its integration into global trade networks. Through our alliance with the Tanzania Ports Authority, we are not only modernizing critical infrastructure but also driving regional integration, reducing trade barriers, and creating sustainable economic opportunities," said Mohammed Akoojee, CEO of DP World Africa.
Martin Jacob, CEO of DP World in Tanzania, stated that "in the last two years, we have substantially improved cargo movement through the Port of Dar es Salaam. Faster operations, increased capacity, and the ability to manage larger and more complex vessels are strengthening Tanzania's position as a regional commercial gateway to East Africa, while generating benefits for customers, businesses, and the economy as a whole."
The transition to cargo transport via specialized car and truck carriers (PCTC), implemented in collaboration with the Tanzania Ports Authority, has enabled faster, safer, and more efficient discharge of heavy vehicles. This change, which has transformed general cargo operations, has driven continuous performance improvements across all cargo categories and strengthened Dar es Salaam's position as a competitive commercial hub in East Africa.
