More than 60 organizations applied for the fourth edition of the "Trabajemos juntos por tu barrio" (Let's work together for your neighborhood) competitive funds, which Terminal Pacífico Sur (TPS) carries out in conjunction with the Simón de Cirene Corporation. Each winning initiative was awarded 2.5 million pesos to carry out infrastructure works, implement digital literacy workshops, and improve preschool coexistence spaces.
In an emotional ceremony at the Valparaíso port facilities, the organizations received a recognition diploma.
"In this fourth edition, we conclude with three very different winning projects, which makes us very enthusiastic," commented Camila Acevedo, TPS Communications Manager. Acevedo added that "we continue to connect with the community, be a good neighbor, and thus connect and promote meaningful work."
Camila Matus, project manager for the Simón de Cirene Corporation, explained that this year "the jury had a difficult job, but the focus was always on finding meaningful projects for Valparaíso, because we know that TPS has roots not only in Barrio Puerto but also in the commune in general. We know there are multiple needs, and this fund is a tool to help communities and impact residents."
The Winning Projects
The Fundación Patronato de los Sagrados Corazones de Valparaíso will be able to repair the roof of its central headquarters, which was affected by water leaks, thus protecting the organization's house, which runs intervention programs for children and adolescents in vulnerable situations.
"We are extremely happy and excited to be able to start growing as an organization in terms of improving our infrastructure, which ultimately contributes to direct intervention with children and families," mentioned Felipe Paredes, executive director of the organization, which has centers in Valparaíso and Nogales.
Carla Villalobos, director of the Smartbrains Foundation: innovation and education for all, detailed that "we are very happy with this fund provided by TPS, which allows us to implement it in the Placilla de Peñuelas community (…) It is necessary to break myths, give seniors confidence that they can use digital tools," highlighted the organization's representative.
The organization will set up the Smart 60+ Classroom, with ergonomic furniture and a 3D printer. Additionally, they will offer free digital literacy, cognitive stimulation, and artificial intelligence workshops. The General Center for Parents and Guardians Jardín Pulgarcito was another winner of the TPS 2026 Competitive Funds.
The preschool establishment in Cerro Placeres will completely enclose the patio, set up sensory sandpits, an educational garden, and wooden games made from recycled pallets. The project will generate a positive impact on 120 children.
"By winning this fund, we seek for children to continue enjoying their dreams and the joy of sharing (…) We are not just happy; we are extremely happy because seeing a happy child is wonderful," said Ana María Pinto, head of Family and Community at Jardín Infantil Pulgarcito.
Starting next Monday, the execution of the three winning projects will begin, with the direct support and advice of TPS and the Simón de Cirene Corporation throughout the entire process.
