The operator Associated British Ports (ABP) announced the acquisition of a marine deck crane aboard the vessel Spartina at the Port of Southampton (United Kingdom). The infrastructure aims to reinforce maritime operations in the port area.
In this regard, ABP reported that "the specialized company Marine Cranes, based in Southampton, supplied, installed, and commissioned a new HS.Marine AK 30 HE4 deck crane aboard the Spartina, replacing the vessel's existing crane at the end of its useful life."
"The project highlighted the strength and breadth of the Solent's maritime supply chain, with specialized support from several local companies in the fields of manufacturing, naval architecture, and marine inspection services," the publication added.
Regarding the crane, it was reported that "it offers a safe working load of 1,050 kg with a maximum outreach of 14.66 meters and incorporates a series of features specifically designed for demanding marine environments, such as continuous hydraulic slewing capability, radio remote control, and a fire-retardant metallic finish for long-term corrosion protection."
"Following its installation, the crane underwent a 125% load test of its safe working load aboard the Spartina, in the presence of the certifying authority's inspector and the vessel's captain," it was indicated.
Chris Evans, ABP's Head of Marine Maintenance Team, stated that "investing in modern and reliable equipment is fundamental to maintaining the safety and efficiency of maritime operations that support the UK's premier cruise turnaround port and Europe's number one transit cruise port. Collaboration with Marine Cranes and other local partners has allowed us to deliver a solution that will support operations in Southampton for many years," he concluded.
