Disney Cruise Line's late 2027 ship, Disney Believe, is coming together with the first of three gigablocks floated out of the covered building dock at Meyer Werft.
This large section is complete with walls, plumbing and wiring. Once the sections, which can weigh more than 31,000 tons, are finished, they'll be welded together.
This first section contains Disney Believe's midship, home to some places like the Grand Hall, which will hold a bronze cast statue of Pacific Islander Moana from Disney Animation's Moana films.
Disney Signature Experiences President Natacha Rafalski was on hand at the shipyard and described the gigablock float-out as a "fascinating process and an exciting milestone bringing us one step closer to completion."
The next gigablock scheduled to be constructed will be the forward portion, followed by the aft.
In other Disney Cruise Line news, more than 30 Make-A-Wish children and their families visited Disney Dream during its call at Cork, Ireland.
The "A Disney Wish" experience brought Disney storytelling, characters and moments of joy to families close to home, character encounters and interactive activities.
As the world's largest wish granter, the Walt Disney Co. on average helps fulfill a wish every hour of every day.
"At Make-A-Wish Ireland, we see every day the powerful difference that hope, joy and connection can make in the lives of wish children and their families," said Susan O'Dwyer, CEO of Make-A-Wish Ireland. The Disney Dream event "gave our wish families a wonderful opportunity to have fun, build lasting memories and connect with others who understand the journey they are on."
The experience began the evening before embarking Disney Dream with a welcome celebration, where the children met Disney characters Joy and Sadness from Disney and Pixar's "Inside Out" and were presented with their own Disney wish wands to mark the start of their memorable experience.
