MacGregor has secured a contract to supply a 165-ton active heave compensated (AHC) crane for a new Ulstein SX121 vessel ordered by Jan De Nul and currently under construction at the China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) shipyard.
The order is part of a one-plus-one vessel construction program, with delivery scheduled for February 2028. The request was registered in MacGregor's order book for the second quarter of 2026.
For Jan De Nul, MacGregor's track record in previous projects proved to be the decisive factor in selecting the 165-ton capacity crane, a lifting solution that has already proven its effectiveness in service.
"The lightweight design of this crane provides greater lifting capacity without the added weight of a larger unit, which translates into a real operational advantage over the vessel's lifespan," said Lucie Addicks, Executive Vice President of Offshore Solutions at MacGregor.
MacGregor's local presence and production capacity in China provide CMHI direct access to design, installation, and commissioning support throughout construction, helping the shipyard maintain schedule discipline until the planned delivery.
"This order reinforces MacGregor's role as a long-term partner for shipowners and shipyards in the offshore construction sector, with lifting technology designed to ensure safety, reliability, and performance throughout a vessel's lifespan," MacGregor stated.
