Cargo Vessel Jacuar Runs Aground After Water Ingress Near Somalia

The Somalia Ministry of Ports and Marine Transport reported on 17 September that the cargo vessel Jacuar ran aground following water ingress in part of the vessel's interior. All the crew were reported safe.

The vessel was sailing from Nacala Port, Mozambique to Adabiya Port, Egypt, carrying approximately 7,007.73 metric tonnes of cargo at the time of the incident. The crew comprised nationals of India, Syria and Egypt.

The Ministry, without disclosing the location of the incident, confirmed that the vessel's situation is being closely monitored by other relevant authorities. Rescue and response operations are being coordinated to ensure the crew's safety and manage the incident.

Jacuar is a 1998-built general cargo vessel sailing under the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis. The vessel measures 100.34 meters in length and 18.8 meters in width.
