CMA CGM announced the implementation of a new Emergency Fuel Surcharge (EFS) due to the renewed escalation of geopolitical tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb.
The Brent crude oil barrel has been trading above $100 since early September, an upward trend that has generally translated into higher marine bunker prices across all regions.
The French shipping company's tariff adjustment will come into effect on October 1, 2026, and will affect cargo transported on main routes, return journeys, and intra-regional routes.
The new scheme sets charges of $265 per TEU for dry cargo and $320 for refrigerated containers on main routes.
Meanwhile, return shipments and intra-regional trade will have a surcharge of $75 per TEU for dry cargo and $90 for reefer cargo, with a proportional charge also applied for oversized and bulk cargo.
These values will replace the EFS levels currently in force and will remain active until further notice.
The company stated that the measure seeks to preserve the continuity and reliability of its logistics services in the face of inflationary pressures facing the global supply chain.
