The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported that the passenger ship RORO Master 5 grounded off Occidental Mindoro on 17 September. All 80 passengers and 24 units of rolling cargo were reported safe.

At around 12:45 am local time, while travelling from the Port of Batangas to the Port of Abra de Ilog in Occidental Mindoro, the vessel struck the seabed 30 meters from the shoreline of Barangay Udalo, Abra de Ilog. The Coast Guard personnel promptly arrived at the site and boarded the vessel to evacuate the passengers.
Four liferafts and a lifeline secured towards the shoreline were used for evacuation operations. By 6 am the evacuated passengers were brought to the port of Abra de Ilog.
According to PCG, no marine pollution was observed and no water ingress inside the vessel. The initial investigation indicates that the vessel ran aground after it experienced a gyrocompass failure and diverted from its intended course.
Following the evacuation, the vessel operator, Orange Navigation Inc., stated that the RORO Master 5 is scheduled to be refloated by a tugboat from Cedar Company. The PCG has deployed floating assets to support the refloating operation.
