Contecon installs two STS cranes in Manzanillo; electrical infrastructure limits expansion

Contecon Manzanillo received two ZPMC electric STS gantry cranes capable of serving vessels of 24,000 TEU, plus five RTG cranes for the yard. The terminal is experiencing double-digit growth, handling 1,186,477 TEU (20.2% more) and concentrating 42% of Manzanillo's movement. However, expansion faces critical limitations: insufficient electrical supply threatens operations, with interruptions requiring hours to restart. Contecon expects to receive 28 electric trucks between December and January but warns about the lack of infrastructure to charge them.
