Engineer Miguel Lorenzo Fábrega today, Thursday, assumed the position as the new Deputy Administrator of the Panama Canal, during a ceremony attended by the Minister for Canal Affairs and Chairman of the Panama Canal Board of Directors, Jose Ramón Icaza Clément, and the Administrator of the Panama Canal, Ilya Espino de Marotta.
The event was also attended by members of the Panama Canal Board of Directors, as witnesses to the signing of the act formalizing Engineer Fábrega's position as Deputy Administrator of the interoceanic waterway.
During the ceremony, Minister Icaza highlighted the relevance of the Deputy Administrator position in strengthening the organization's management and in fulfilling the Panama Canal's mission as an engine of global trade and the country's sustainable development.
Subsequently, the Act of Taking Possession was signed, through which Engineer Fábrega officially assumed his new duties at the helm of the Canal administration.
In his remarks, the new Deputy Administrator expressed gratitude for the trust placed in his management and reiterated his commitment to work alongside the Canal team to maintain operational excellence, drive innovation, and continue strengthening the competitiveness of the maritime route in service of international trade and Panama.
With this appointment, the Panama Canal reaffirms its commitment to a solid, professional administration focused on ensuring the continuity of safe, efficient, and sustainable operations for the benefit of Panama and its clients worldwide.
The Deputy Administrator of the Panama Canal has 28 years of experience at the Panama Canal. Throughout this period, he has held positions of increasing responsibility, from structural engineer to Executive Manager of Engineering, Deputy Manager of the Third Set of Locks Design, and subsequently, Vice President of Engineering and Services. Since 2020, he served as Vice President of Infrastructure and Engineering.
