Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino met in New York with representatives from Blackstone and SSA Marine, who expressed interest in opportunities related to new ports and Panama Canal projects. The companies maintain investments related to maritime terminals.
SSA Marine operates Manzanillo International Terminal (MIT), in Colón, which moved approximately 2.16 million TEUs between January and August 2026. In the same period, Panamanian ports recorded a combined movement of 6.74 million TEUs, with a year-on-year growth of 2.8%.
The business interest arises as Panama prepares new concession processes for Balboa and Cristóbal, in addition to projects to develop terminals in Corozal, Telfers, and Margarita Island. The Presidency has not yet specified which of these initiatives Blackstone and SSA Marine might participate in.
