The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) held a meeting with representatives of the Association for the Promotion of National Infrastructure (AFIN) and its associated companies to address preparedness actions for the El Niño Phenomenon (ENP) and the necessary coordination to respond to possible impacts on roads and telecommunications services.

During the meeting, Minister José Angello Tangherlini Casal announced that a meeting with road network concessionaires would be scheduled to coordinate actions to prevent and mitigate the effects of the ENP.

One of the points discussed was the availability of modular bridges in the event of possible damage to road infrastructure. In this regard, the sector head proposed anticipating their relocation so that they can be available to concessionaires and installed when appropriate.

The guild representatives expressed their concerns about vulnerable points on the Carretera Central and other roads. They also highlighted their willingness to maintain permanent coordination with the MTC to share information from the areas where they operate and facilitate response to possible emergencies.

During the meeting, which included the participation of the Deputy Minister of Communications, Dalia Suárez, concession contracts and the necessary conditions to ensure the continuity of investments in transport and telecommunications infrastructure were also discussed.

"There is a government policy aimed at working hand in hand with the private sector. The President is clear that the future of infrastructure in the country lies precisely in public-private partnerships," said Minister Tangherlini.

Likewise, the need to facilitate operators' access to affected areas to address service interruptions was discussed.

Regarding citizen security, AFIN President, Juan Pacheco, highlighted the actions of the MTC and the Unified Command to dismantle illegal antennas that provided internet signal to prisons and stressed the importance of maintaining these interventions permanently.
