The Minister of Ports and Airports, Tomé Franca, will be in Maranhão this Tuesday (22) to visit the Ponta da Madeira Maritime Terminal, in São Luís, and the Barreirinhas Airport, in the Lençóis Maranhenses region.
At the Ponta da Madeira Maritime Terminal, managed by Vale, the minister will participate in an institutional presentation on the terminal and its operations. A discussion on the review of the Port of Itaqui's polygonal area is also scheduled.
One of the main iron ore export points of Vale's Northern System, the port area handled 172.4 million tons in 2025. The structure has five berths and is connected to the Carajás Railway, which links the Carajás region, in Pará, to the enterprise in São Luís.
In Barreirinhas, the minister will visit the airport that serves the Lençóis Maranhenses region. The unit was incorporated into the concession of Guarulhos International Airport through the AmpliAR Program, an initiative aimed at expanding and regionalizing airport infrastructure.
In the first phase of the program, Barreirinhas Airport will receive R$ 58.1 million in investments.
