An Indian crew member lost his life in an attack on the bulk carrier Cape Dao off the Omani coast on 23 September. Twenty-seven other crew members were safely rescued from the vessel by an Omani warship. The Cape Dao was reportedly struck by torpedoes while en route to India.

The incident occurred on 23 September when the vessel was approximately 4.6 km off Musandam, Oman, near the sensitive Strait of Hormuz. Following the attack, the Royal Navy of Oman rescued the remaining 27 crew members. Nineteen of the rescued individuals were Indian nationals.
India's Ministry of External Affairs has condemned the attack, calling the continuing targeting of commercial shipping in the region "deeply worrisome." The Indian Embassy has confirmed the death of one Indian sailor and stated that it is coordinating with Omani authorities for the safety and repatriation of the remaining crew.
The Cape Dao is an Antigua and Barbuda-flagged bulk carrier built in 2002. The vessel has a length of 289 metres, a beam of 45 metres, and a gross tonnage of 84,448.
