The Maritime Authority ruled out any emergency situation after the activation of a sound signal from a vessel docked at the Port of San Antonio. The incident was attributed to a malfunction in the ship's alert mechanism during routine technical tests.
However, the event caused uncertainty and various speculations in the local community, who attributed what happened to a possible collision, the activation of a maritime proximity alert, or an unannounced drill.
Given this scenario, PortalPortuario consulted on this situation with Commander LT Roberto Asencio, Port Captain of San Antonio, who stated that "there was indeed an alarm, but within the context of tests that are carried out, where there was a small malfunction of the system itself in which the alarm got stuck."
"Strictly speaking, these were just routine tests carried out by inspectors on board, so there is nothing to worry about and it did not escalate. Any type of risk is ruled out. It was not an emergency, but simply an alarm test," he added.
According to background information on the case, the siren reportedly emitted the sound pattern corresponding to an onboard emergency and resonated for approximately 10 minutes.
Likewise, the signal was attributed to the container ship CMA CGM Carl Antoine, which has been moored at Site C2 - operated by the concessionaire DP World - since Tuesday, August 18.
