Exmar signed agreements with Côte d'Ivoire Energies (CI-Energies) and Société Nationale d'Opérations Pétrolières de la Côte d'Ivoire (Petroci) for the 10-year lease of a 152,000 m³ and 250 MMSCFD Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU), as well as its operation and maintenance, at the Port of Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
Petroci will source LNG from the international market, which it will import via Exmar's Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) starting in the third quarter of 2027, and will deliver the regasified LNG to CI-Energies for electricity production.
"At Exmar, we are proud that Ivory Coast has entrusted us with this important, fast-track LNG import project. This demonstrates that our floating infrastructure solutions are a competitive and quick-to-market solution to ensure strategic energy supply. We look forward to forging a strong partnership with the Petroci and CI Energies teams, which we hope to strengthen in the future," the company stated.
Petroci pointed out that "the demand for natural gas and electricity in Ivory Coast continues to grow in line with the country's economic development. The Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) represents a significant step forward in strengthening our energy security, by providing an additional and flexible source of natural gas, complementary to national production and existing infrastructure. It will contribute to diversifying and guaranteeing gas supply, while supporting the growing needs of the electricity sector. Together with Exmar and CI-Energies, Petroci is fully committed to the successful implementation of this strategic project and to supporting the long-term energy and economic development of Ivory Coast."
The Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) is necessary to meet the increasing demand for gas and electricity in Ivory Coast, with its growing population, prosperous economy, and expanding mining industry, as well as to cover additional demand from neighboring countries.
