East Java Multipurpose Terminal (EJMT), the Lamongan operation of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (Ictsi), hosted representatives from the logistics industry to explore business opportunities between East Java and the broader eastern Indonesia region, with a special focus on freight transport development, market access, and transportation connections through Lamongan.
The discussion centered on goods flows between production centers and consumer markets, access to national and international maritime routes, and the role of ports, warehouses, and customs facilities serving businesses across different sectors.
John Largo, EJMT Executive Director, stated that the dialogue provided a clearer view of freight transportation patterns and the factors influencing transport decisions.
"We are observing growing interest in maritime routes connecting East Java with eastern Indonesia. These conversations help us understand where demand is growing and how Lamongan can facilitate the movement of goods," the executive indicated.
Sebastian Wibisono, Chairman of the Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders Association (ALFI/ILFA) of East Java, affirmed that connectivity, competitive costs, and reliable transportation options remain important considerations for businesses transporting goods across the archipelago.
"For the logistics sector, connectivity, competitive costs, and reliable transportation options contribute to efficient goods movement. We appreciate the dialogue with EJMT and see potential in Lamongan to offer additional routes for businesses transporting goods between East Java and the eastern region of the country," Wibisono stated.
Located within the Lamongan Shorebase complex, EJMT provides access to port, warehousing, and customs logistics facilities, and is connected to nearby industrial developments, including the i-sentra project of the Jakamitra Industrial Park.
The terminal began operations in October 2024 and handles containerized, bulk, project, and oversized shipments. It serves clients in Lamongan, Tuban, and the surrounding areas, providing an additional gateway for businesses operating in East Java.
Both parties agreed to continue consulting with manufacturers, freight forwarders, and cargo owners to better understand business needs and potential cargo flows between East Java and eastern Indonesia.
The meeting also reflected Ictsi's efforts to boost economic activity in Indonesia through its port operations. In addition to EJMT, the company operates the Batu Ampar Container Terminal (BACT) in Batam, a strategic point in the Strait of Malacca that serves the Riau Islands and handles regional and international shipments.
