Twenty barges ended up adrift in the Waterway near the front of Isla Cerrito (Argentina). The incident occurred after the aforementioned vessels detached from the tugboat that was transporting them.
According to the media outlet La Nación, the vessel involved in this situation was the Tendotá, a Paraguayan-flagged tugboat owned by ADM Naviera Chaco.
As a result of the emergency, authorities of the Trunk Navigable Waterway (VNT) deployed an operation where 4 barges were recovered, while the other 16 continued their course towards the Paraná River. Later, the rescue of the remaining vessels was completed, with the procedure concluding at kilometer 1,230 of the Waterway.
Finally, it was reported that the Tendotá must await the vessel's inspection by a specialist technician in Hull and Machinery designated by the VNT before commencing the task of moving the barges that were moored during the operation.
