The Empresa Portuaria Valparaíso (EPV) and the Ruta 68 a la Costa Concessionaire Company held the First Cross-Sector Meeting on Mobility and Road Safety for Cargo and Passenger Transport.
The objective of the event was to create a space for coordination among public and private stakeholders involved in cargo and passenger transport, promoting the exchange of experiences, incident prevention, and the strengthening of emergency response mechanisms.
The event, held at the state-owned company's facilities, brought together port representatives, transport companies, Carabineros de Chile (Chilean Police), and the Fire Department, addressing road safety as a shared responsibility.
Juan Marcos Mancilla, Logistics Manager of Puerto Valparaíso, explained that EPV's participation aimed to share its technological experience and highlight the importance of safety in road cargo transport. "As a port, we wanted to participate and showcase our experience in terms of the technologies we have, and also raise awareness about the importance of safety and sustainability in road cargo transport," he stated.
Ramiro Fernández, Product Manager of Ruta 68 a la Costa, noted that "it was a cross-sector meeting intended to raise awareness, inform, introduce ourselves as a concessionaire company, what we do, why we do it, where we are, and, above all, to foster future coordination with transport companies and authorities, in order to improve road safety on Ruta 68," he affirmed.
For his part, Samuel Valenzuela, Operations Manager of Ruta 68 a la Costa, added that "we were able to have a conversation where everyone could present their reality. As a concessionaire, we discussed our implications from the perspective of road safety. Basically, what we did was explain our interaction with the other organizations present here," he commented.
Meanwhile, Carola Mellado, representative of Fedequinta, valued the diversity of stakeholders present at the meeting and expressed the expectation that the event would continue to be held. "I found it very interesting that there were different stakeholders. Ruta 68, which we as transporters use 24/7, and we hope that these meetings will continue in the future, where we as transporters can offer our opinions and suggestions," she said.
The meeting concluded with an on-site demonstration of Ruta 68's emergency and road assistance fleet, and both organizing institutions expressed their intention to replicate this event periodically.
