Latin America seeks to strengthen its shipping and port capacity in response to the reconfiguration of supply chains and the growth of trade with Asia. Investments in infrastructure and the expansion of terminals aim to improve maritime connectivity and regional competitiveness.
According to ECLAC data, in 2024 container movement grew by 15% in Panama, 15.6% in Colombia, 11.4% in Peru, and 11.9% in Chile. Competitiveness also depends on the frequency of shipping services, transport costs, and logistics integration.
Looking ahead to the end of 2026, the region aims to consolidate port investments into sustainable advantages through digitalization, fleet modernization, and emissions reduction. These advancements will be fundamental to strengthening the resilience of supply chains and expanding Latin American participation in international maritime trade.
