USTDA Boosts Port Infrastructure Improvement in Subic Bay, Philippines

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) announced that it will promote infrastructure improvement and the installation of a network of Wi-Fi hotspots in the ports of Subic Bay (Philippines). The commitment was made during the Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC) Investment Forum.

It has been reported that "the new funding will allow for the expansion of berthing capacity and a dry dock for ship repair in Subic Bay, and will cover the pilot project for AI-enhanced Wi-Fi hotspots in the Philippines."

In this regard, USTDA Director, Thomas Hardy, stated that "these activities represent very different sectors, but they share a common purpose: to attract investment to high-quality infrastructure projects, while creating opportunities for trusted partners and technologies to contribute to the growth of the Philippines."

"These initiatives are designed to have a tangible impact on both the country's economic growth and job creation here, and to do so in a way that further strengthens the ties between our countries."

Also present at the event, U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines, Lee Lipton, stated that "the U.S. fully supports the Luzon Economic Corridor because it is beneficial for both the Philippines and the United States. It means more investment, stronger supply chains, and high-quality jobs in both nations."

Additionally, the Energy Threshold Program was signed at the meeting, which will receive USD 60 million in North American funding through the Millennium Challenge Corporation.
